The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation has received an in‑principle nod to study the establishment of a dry port in Tiruchirappalli, aiming to boost logistics and trade in the region.
The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has secured an in‑principle nod from the state government to explore setting up a dry port in Tiruchirappalli. The move is part of a broader strategy to de‑congest coastal seaports and enhance hinterland connectivity.
TIDCO will commission a detailed feasibility study that will examine site suitability, required infrastructure and projected cargo volumes. The study will be carried out by consultants appointed by the corporation and is expected to be completed within the next few months.
Officials indicated that the proposed dry port would handle containerised cargo, bulk commodities and function as a multimodal hub linking rail, road and inland waterways. The facility is projected to attract investment, generate employment and lower logistics costs for manufacturers in central Tamil Nadu.
The initiative aligns with the state’s push for integrated logistics parks under the National Logistics Policy, though final decisions on funding and timelines will await the study’s findings.
