Three maritime attacks in 48 hours heighten Black Sea and Hormuz risks for Indian sailors

Three separate attacks reported within two days in the Black Sea and the Strait of Hormuz have raised alarms over the safety of Indian naval and merchant crews operating in these waters.

Within a span of 48 hours, three distinct attacks were recorded in two of the world’s most contested maritime corridors – the Black Sea and the Strait of Hormuz. The incidents, reported by maritime security agencies, involved hostile actions against vessels transiting these routes, prompting immediate concern among Indian maritime authorities.

Indian naval officials have warned that the frequency of such confrontations signals a rising threat level for Indian sailors, both in the navy and on commercial ships. The Black Sea, already volatile due to regional conflicts, and the Hormuz Strait, a chokepoint for global oil shipments, are now being closely monitored for any escalation that could endanger Indian assets.

In response, the Ministry of Defence has instructed Indian warships and merchant vessels to adopt heightened vigilance, increase convoy protection, and follow revised routing guidelines where feasible. The navy’s maritime patrol aircraft and surface combatants are being tasked with real‑time surveillance to deter further aggression.

Analysts note that the back‑to‑back attacks underscore the broader geopolitical tensions affecting sea lanes that are vital to India’s trade and energy security. While no Indian ship was reported damaged, the events have reinforced the need for robust maritime security measures in these high‑risk zones.
