The Madhya Pradesh Water Resources Department opened three half‑meter radial gates at Banasaagar Dam on Monday night, releasing 304 cubic metres per second into the Son River and issuing alerts for downstream areas.

The Water Resources Department of Madhya Pradesh ordered the partial opening of three radial gates at Banasaagar Dam on Monday night as the upstream water level rose sharply. Each gate was opened by half a metre to manage the inflow and prevent overtopping of the reservoir.

The controlled release is set at 304 cubic metres per second, directing the excess water into the Son River. Authorities have issued an alert for downstream districts, urging residents and local administrations to stay vigilant and prepare for higher river flows.

Officials confirmed that the release will be continuously monitored and that additional measures will be taken if water levels remain elevated. The department emphasized that the action is a precautionary step to safeguard the dam’s structural integrity and protect communities along the river basin.
