On the final Monday of Shravan, thousands of devotees assembled at Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple for the early‑morning Bhasma Aarti, which began at 2:30 am with a Panchamrit abhishek and special decorations.

Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple saw a massive gathering on the last Monday of the Hindu month of Shravan, as thousands of devotees arrived before dawn to witness the Bhasma Aarti. The ritual commenced at 2:30 am, drawing worshippers from across the region who came to partake in the sacred ceremony.

The ceremony featured a Panchamrit abhishek, where the deity was bathed in a mixture of five sacred substances, followed by an elaborate alankaran that highlighted the temple’s traditional aesthetics. Devotees also offered ash (bhasma) to the idol, a symbolic act of humility and devotion.

Shravan Mondays hold special significance for followers of Lord Shiva, and the Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is a focal point for such observances. The early‑morning atmosphere was charged with chants and the resonant cries of “Jai Mahakal,” reflecting the deep reverence of the assembled crowd.
