The revised alignment of the Outer Ring Road in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has been granted environmental clearance by the state authorities, paving the way for the next phase of the project.
The Outer Ring Road (ORR) project, aimed at easing traffic congestion around Thiruvananthapuram, has entered a new stage after the state environmental clearance was granted for its revised alignment.
The clearance, issued by the Kerala Department of Environment, followed a detailed assessment of the proposed route, which now avoids ecologically sensitive zones and reduces land acquisition requirements.
With the approval in hand, the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) plans to commence detailed engineering studies and tendering for construction in the coming months.
The revised alignment is expected to cut travel time between key suburbs by up to 30 minutes and is part of the state’s broader effort to improve connectivity and reduce pollution.
Officials emphasized that the project will adhere to stringent environmental safeguards and community consultation processes before construction begins.
