The Indian Meteorological Department forecasts a gradual decline in temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir starting mid‑September.
The department issued a forecast indicating that after the middle of September, daytime and nighttime temperatures across the union territory will begin to fall.
According to the latest data, average maximum temperatures that have hovered around 30 °C in early September are expected to drop to the mid‑20s by the end of the month, while minimum temperatures could fall to around 12‑15 °C, especially in higher altitude areas.
The cooling trend aligns with the onset of autumn in the Himalayan region, and officials advise residents to prepare for cooler evenings, especially in valleys and hill stations such as Srinagar and Pahalgam.
The department also warned that early cold snaps could increase demand for heating fuel and may affect agricultural activities that rely on warm weather.
