The Telangana government has announced that it will commence the distribution of laminated Public Distribution System (PDS) ration cards from 15 August. The decision, reported by Telangana Today, aims to replace the existing paper cards with more durable laminated versions.
Laminated cards are expected to reduce instances of forgery and make it easier for authorities to verify authenticity. The state government said the new cards will also simplify the process of updating beneficiary details.
Distribution will take place across all districts, with centers set up at local ration shops and community halls. Eligible families will receive their new cards on the designated dates, with a phased rollout planned to avoid congestion.
Officials believe that the upgraded cards will improve service delivery and help the state better track and manage the distribution of subsidised food grains.
