A video circulating online shows 70‑year‑old MLA Ranga Reddy interacting with two female students on the state’s Mahalakshmi free‑bus scheme, prompting accusations of inappropriate touching.
A video that has gone viral on social media depicts Ranga Reddy, a 70‑year‑old Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislator from Ibrahimpatnam in Telangana, conversing with two girl students aboard the state‑run "Mahalakshmi" free bus for women. The footage shows the MLA making physical contact that observers have described as inappropriate.
The incident occurred while the women’s transport service was in operation, a scheme launched by the Congress‑led state government to provide safe commuting options for female passengers. The two students, who were travelling on the bus, have alleged that the MLA touched them in a manner that made them uncomfortable.
Following the video's circulation, the BRS party issued a statement denying any wrongdoing and said it would cooperate with any official inquiry. Telangana police have been asked to register a complaint and investigate the matter under relevant criminal provisions.
The episode adds to growing scrutiny of public officials’ conduct on government‑sponsored platforms, with civil society groups calling for stricter enforcement of safety norms on the Mahalakshmi scheme.
