Telangana Horticulture University has teamed up with Virginia Tech to develop strategies against the fruit fly pest threatening the state's horticultural crops.

Telangana Horticulture University (THU) has announced a formal partnership with the United States research institution Virginia Tech to address the escalating problem of fruit fly infestations in the state.
The fruit fly, a notorious pest of mango, guava, and other horticultural produce, has caused significant yield losses for farmers across Telangana. The collaboration aims to combine THU’s local expertise with Virginia Tech’s advanced research capabilities.
Under the agreement, joint research projects will focus on developing effective pest‑management techniques, including biological controls and resistant crop varieties. The partnership will also provide training workshops for farmers to implement integrated pest management practices.
Both institutions have expressed a shared commitment to reducing pest damage, safeguarding farmers’ incomes, and ensuring a stable supply of high‑quality fruit for the market.
