From November 2026, power users in Telangana will incur an extra Rs 5,420 crore in electricity charges, according to a recent report.
The Telangana state government announced that starting November 2026, the cost of electricity supplied to residential and commercial consumers will rise, adding an estimated Rs 5,420 crore to the total billing across the state.
The increase stems from higher procurement costs, adjustments in power purchase agreements and anticipated inflation in fuel prices, officials said. The additional amount will be spread across all consumer categories, resulting in higher monthly bills for households and businesses alike.
Consumer advocacy groups have warned that the hike could strain low‑income families, urging the government to consider targeted subsidies or phased implementation. The power department has indicated that the revenue is required to sustain grid reliability and fund upcoming infrastructure projects.
The state electricity board will issue revised tariff orders in the coming months, and the new rates will be reflected in the first billing cycle after November 2026.
