Dr. Divyendu Sen, a science teacher at a government school in Jhalawar district, Rajasthan, has been named a recipient of the President’s Teacher Award, one of the nation’s highest honors for educators.
The award recognises his innovative “QR‑Code Plant” program, under which more than 500 saplings in the school’s campus and nearby community were labeled with QR codes that students can scan to access information about species, growth data, and related scientific experiments.
The initiative aims to blend classroom learning with hands‑on environmental stewardship, encouraging students to use smartphones and tablets to collect data, conduct observations and develop projects aligned with the national curriculum.
Education officials said the project exemplifies the integration of digital tools in rural schools and could be replicated across the state. The President’s award will be presented at a ceremony in New Delhi later this year.
