Ahead of Diwali, Tarabari police in Assam raided gambling dens, confiscating Jandi-Munda devices used for illegal betting.
Tarabari police in Assam have launched a focused operation against illegal gambling ahead of the Diwali festivities. The raid targeted several known betting spots where locals were reportedly placing wagers using traditional Jandi-Munda equipment.
The enforcement team seized a number of Jandi-Munda devices, which are commonly employed in unlicensed betting games. Officials said the gear was confiscated to disrupt the illicit gambling network and to send a clear deterrent message.
Authorities emphasized that the pre‑Diwali period often sees a surge in gambling activities, prompting a proactive stance to protect public order and prevent financial exploitation of vulnerable citizens. The police have urged residents to report any similar operations and assured that further inspections will continue throughout the holiday season.
