For the first time, Suma from Tamil Nadu rode the ceremonial chariot of Baba Mahakal in Ujjain, replacing Shyamoo who was on break.

A special highlight of the recent Mahakal procession in Ujjain was the debut of Suma, a performer from Tamil Nadu, who assumed the symbolic ride of Baba Mahakal after Shyamoo took a break. The event, a key part of the city’s religious calendar, featured a richly decorated chariot that carried the deity’s representation through the streets.\nThe procession was accompanied by a cascade of flower petals, enthusiastic chants, bhajan groups, horses, elephants, cannon fire, a police parade and a series of cultural performances, creating a festive atmosphere that drew large crowds.\nSuma, seated on the specially adorned carriage, is described as having embodied the "Manmahesha" form of Baba Mahakal, guiding the deity on a ceremonial city tour witnessed by thousands of devotees.\nOrganisers highlighted that inviting an artist from Tamil Nadu reflects the pan‑Indian reverence for the Mahakaleshwar tradition and adds a fresh dimension to the age‑old ritual.\nThe procession concluded with customary prayers and the return of the deity’s image to the Mahakaleshwar Temple, marking the end of the day's celebrations.
