The India Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for Tamil Nadu, warning that a new low‑pressure area could develop by October 29, potentially bringing heavy rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a rain alert for the entire state of Tamil Nadu on Thursday, citing the possibility of a new low‑pressure system forming by October 29. The alert warns that the developing system could bring widespread heavy rainfall and increase the risk of flooding in low‑lying districts.

Meteorologists say the low‑pressure area would intensify as it moves across the Bay of Bengal, drawing moisture from the sea and feeding the monsoon trough. If the system strengthens, rainfall could reach 200 mm in some parts of the state.

State authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert, secure loose objects, and follow instructions from local disaster management officials. Schools and offices in high‑risk zones are advised to monitor weather updates closely.

The IMD will continue to monitor the developing system and issue further advisories as the situation evolves.
