Tamil Nadu authorities have announced that all new solar and wind power projects coming online after 2027 will need battery storage facilities to ensure grid stability.
Tamil Nadu’s energy department has issued a directive that any new solar or wind power plant commissioned after 2027 must incorporate battery storage systems. The move aims to address the intermittency of renewable generation and maintain grid reliability.
Under the new rule, developers will be required to design and install storage capacities that can absorb excess power during peak production and release it during demand spikes. The directive applies to all projects, regardless of size, and will be enforced through the state’s licensing process.
