The Hindu reports that the state of Tamil Nadu is set to regain 40 super‑specialty medical seats that had remained vacant in recent admission cycles. These seats, which are part of advanced postgraduate training programmes, will now be re‑assigned to institutions within the state.
Super‑specialty seats are critical for producing highly trained specialists in fields such as cardiology, neurology and oncology. Their vacancy had limited the number of doctors able to pursue these subspecialties, affecting both academic institutions and patient care capacity.
The reallocation is expected to bolster the state's medical education infrastructure and help address the shortage of specialist physicians in Tamil Nadu's public health system. Authorities will coordinate with the relevant medical councils to ensure the seats are filled in the upcoming academic year.
