From today, the price of liquor in Tamil Nadu has been increased by ₹10 per unit, but the state has introduced a mechanism for buyers to recover the extra cost.
Effective today, the Tamil Nadu excise department has raised the retail price of liquor by ₹10 per litre across the state. The increase applies to all categories of spirit sold through licensed outlets.
The government has simultaneously announced a rebate scheme that allows consumers to claim back the additional ₹10. Details of the claim process will be communicated by the department, and eligible buyers can submit proof of purchase to receive the refund.
Officials said the price adjustment is part of routine excise revisions, while the rebate is intended to cushion the impact on regular drinkers. Industry observers note that the move could affect sales volumes, but the exact outcome remains to be seen.
