The Maa Kauvery hospital, a 120‑bed facility dedicated to women’s and children’s health, was officially opened in Chennai by Tamil Nadu’s health minister.

Chennai welcomed a new specialised medical centre on Thursday as the state’s health minister inaugurated Maa Kauvery, a 120‑bed hospital exclusively for women and children. The facility, located in the city’s growing healthcare corridor, is equipped with modern obstetrics, paediatrics and neonatal intensive care units.

The opening marks a key step in Tamil Nadu’s effort to expand gender‑focused healthcare services, aiming to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates across the state. Officials said the hospital will offer both outpatient and inpatient services, including emergency care, at affordable rates.

State health officials highlighted that the hospital will operate under a public‑private partnership model, allowing it to leverage advanced medical technology while keeping treatment costs low for the community. The inauguration was attended by senior government representatives and local dignitaries.

The new centre is expected to serve thousands of patients annually, providing specialised care that was previously limited to larger tertiary hospitals in the region. Its launch aligns with the government’s broader health‑infrastructure expansion plan for 2024‑25.
