The Tamil Nadu government, led by Vijay, has announced an increase in autorickshaw fares, including new rates, waiting charges, and night-time fees.
The Tamil Nadu government, headed by Vijay, has officially raised the fares for autorickshaws across the state. The new pricing structure introduces updated base rates, additional waiting charges, and a separate fee for rides taken during night hours.
Under the revised scheme, drivers will collect higher fares for the initial distance traveled, and passengers will be charged a waiting fee for any idle time beyond a specified threshold. Night-time rides, defined as those taken between 10 pm and 6 am, will incur an extra surcharge.
The move aims to reflect the rising operational costs faced by autorickshaw operators. While commuters will notice a modest increase in their travel expenses, the government says the adjustment is necessary to sustain the sector.
The announcement was made in a press release issued by the transport department, and the new rates will take effect from the start of the next month.
