Tamil Nadu CM writes to Centre seeking approval for inland container depot in Tiruchirappalli

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has dispatched a formal communication to the Union Government, urging the creation of an inland container depot (ICD) at Tiruchirappalli.
The proposal is presented as a step to strengthen the state’s logistics network, ease pressure on coastal ports and facilitate smoother movement of goods for Tamil Nadu’s industrial corridors.
In the letter, the CM underscored Tiruchirappalli’s strategic rail and road links, arguing that an ICD there would generate employment and attract ancillary businesses.
The Centre’s response is awaited, as the request aligns with national plans to expand multimodal freight infrastructure across the country.
