After abandoning the proposed Parandur airport, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the state will look for a new operator to manage Chennai International Airport.

The Tamil Nadu government has officially dropped plans for a greenfield airport at Parandur, citing financial and logistical concerns. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said the decision will free up resources for improving existing infrastructure.

In the wake of that decision, the CM announced that the state will now focus on finding a new operator for Chennai International Airport, which handles the bulk of air traffic in the region. Officials indicated that the search will consider both private firms and public‑private partnership models to enhance efficiency and passenger experience.

The move comes as the state seeks to boost its aviation sector without launching new projects. The government has not disclosed a timeline for the selection process, but said it will prioritize transparency and stakeholder consultation.
