Following a recent security review, the Union Home Ministry has reduced Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s protection level from Z+ to Z.

New Delhi – The Union Home Ministry has lowered the security cover for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin from the highest Z+ tier to the Z category after a routine assessment of threat levels. The decision, communicated to the state government, reflects a recalibration of the protection required for the chief minister.

Z+ security typically involves a team of around 55 personnel, including commandos and specialized officers, while Z category protection is provided by a smaller contingent of roughly 22 officers. Both levels are part of the central government's tiered system for safeguarding high‑risk public figures.

State officials did not disclose specific reasons for the downgrade, but sources indicated that recent intelligence inputs suggested a reduced risk profile for the chief minister. The Tamil Nadu government confirmed the change and affirmed that the revised security arrangement will continue to ensure Mr. Stalin’s safety without compromising operational effectiveness.

No further alterations to the chief minister’s security detail have been announced, and the Home Ministry said it will review the arrangement periodically.
