A byelection slated for 2026 in Tamil Nadu has been announced, with Chief Minister Vijay set to spearhead the campaign.
News18 Tamil reported that a byelection is scheduled for 2026 in Tamil Nadu, marking the first major electoral event in the state since the last general poll.
Chief Minister Vijay has publicly confirmed his involvement in the campaign, signalling the ruling party's intent to retain the seat and consolidate its position ahead of upcoming elections.
The byelection will fill a vacant seat in the state legislative assembly, though election officials have not yet disclosed the exact polling date or the list of candidates contesting.
Political observers note that the outcome could serve as an early indicator of voter sentiment toward the current government, especially in a state where regional dynamics often influence national trends.
The Election Commission is reportedly preparing voter registration drives and logistical arrangements to ensure a smooth voting process when the schedule is finalized.
