Health authorities in Uttarakhand have reported a simultaneous rise in swine flu and COVID‑19 infections, warning of a double‑whammy for the state.

Uttarakhand's public health department has confirmed that both H1N1 (swine flu) and COVID-19 are being detected in patients across the state, creating a rare overlap of two respiratory illnesses. Officials said the co‑occurrence, while not yet widespread, is enough to prompt heightened surveillance and testing.

The department urged hospitals and clinics to screen for both viruses when patients present flu‑like symptoms, and to report any co‑infection promptly. Medical teams are being briefed on treatment protocols that address the differing clinical courses of the two diseases.

Health experts cautioned that the simultaneous presence of both pathogens could strain resources, especially in rural districts with limited intensive‑care capacity. They recommended vaccination against seasonal flu, continued COVID‑19 precautions, and early medical consultation for anyone experiencing fever, cough or breathing difficulty.

The state government has pledged to allocate additional diagnostic kits and to reinforce public awareness campaigns, emphasizing mask use, hand hygiene and avoiding crowded indoor spaces during the peak season.
