Suriya's 'Scene' Sets Record Opening in Kerala, Beats 'Karuppu' and 'Vishwanath & Sons'

The Week reported that the Tamil‑language film ‘Scene’, headlined by popular actor Suriya, achieved an unprecedented opening performance in the southern state of Kerala. Box‑office data shows that the film’s first‑day collections surpassed those of the other two releases that debuted the same weekend – ‘Karuppu’ and ‘Vishwanath & Sons’.

Industry observers attribute the strong response to Suriya’s fan base in the region and aggressive promotional activities ahead of the release. The film’s distributor noted that the opening figures set a new benchmark for Tamil films in Kerala, a market traditionally dominated by Malayalam productions.

The success of ‘Scene’ adds to Suriya’s recent string of hits and underscores the growing cross‑regional appeal of South Indian cinema. No official numbers were disclosed, but trade analysts described the performance as “record‑breaking” for a Tamil title in the state.

The Week’s coverage highlighted that while ‘Karuppu’ and ‘Vishwanath & Sons’ opened modestly, they were quickly eclipsed by ‘Scene’s’ momentum, suggesting a shift in audience preferences toward star‑driven projects. The film is slated for a wider release across other Indian territories in the coming days.
