India’s Supreme Court has sought clarification from the Election Commission regarding recent changes to voter rolls, raising concerns over the process.

The apex court in New Delhi has formally questioned the Election Commission of India over recent alterations made to the electoral rolls. Senior judges asked the commission to explain the rationale, methodology and timing of the changes during a hearing that drew attention from political observers.
In its order, the court highlighted the need for transparency, noting that any modification to voter lists could affect the integrity of upcoming elections. The Election Commission was directed to submit detailed documents and data supporting the revisions.
Legal experts say the scrutiny underscores the judiciary’s role in safeguarding democratic processes. The matter remains pending, and the commission’s response will shape how the rolls are finalized before the next electoral cycle.
