The Supreme Court held that a total ban on internet access for children is neither possible nor desirable and directed the government to enforce stringent measures to curb online sexual exploitation of minors.

The Supreme Court delivered a landmark judgment stating that completely restricting internet access for children across India is neither feasible nor beneficial. The bench emphasized that internet usage is a right for children, but warned that the digital space also exposes them to serious risks, particularly sexual exploitation.

In its ruling, the Court directed the central and state governments to adopt strict measures to prevent online sexual abuse of minors. It urged the authorities to introduce robust monitoring mechanisms, enforce age‑verification protocols, and ensure swift legal action against offenders.

The judgment also called for coordinated efforts among parents, schools, and technology platforms to create a safer online environment for children. By balancing children's digital rights with protective safeguards, the Court aims to curb exploitation while preserving the benefits of internet access.

The Court’s order underscores the need for a comprehensive policy framework that addresses both the empowerment and protection of minors in the digital age.
