Supreme Court Orders Transfer of Kullu DC and SP Over Kasol Rave Party Oversight

The Supreme Court of India has upheld the Himachal High Court’s decision to transfer Deputy Commissioner Anurag C Sharma and Superintendent of Police Madan Lal from the Kullu district. The transfers were ordered after allegations that the officials failed to prevent a series of rave parties in the tourist town of Kasol, which raised concerns over law and order. In its ruling, the apex court also stayed any further action on the FIRs filed against the officials and the Special Investigation Team’s probe.

The court noted that while the allegations were serious, the departmental inquiries required the officials to be relocated to ensure impartiality and avoid any perception of bias. By moving Sharma and Madan Lal out of Kullu, the court aimed to facilitate a fair investigation into the incidents that drew national attention.

The decision underscores the judiciary’s role in holding law‑enforcement officers accountable for lapses in maintaining public safety, especially in high‑profile tourist destinations.
