The Supreme Court’s collegium has put forward names for the chief justice posts in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chhattisgarh, pending government approval.

The Supreme Court’s collegium, the body that selects senior judges for India’s high courts, has submitted its recommendations for the chief justice positions in four states. The recommendations cover the high courts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Chhattisgarh.

According to the collegium’s report, suitable candidates have been identified for each of the four chief justice posts. The names will now be forwarded to the Ministry of Law and Justice for further processing.

The appointment of a chief justice requires the President’s formal approval after the government’s concurrence. Once cleared, the new chief justices will assume office and oversee the administration of justice in their respective high courts.

The collegium’s recommendations are part of the routine judicial appointment process and are expected to be acted upon without delay, ensuring continuity in the functioning of the high courts.
