Heavy rains have caused sudden flooding in Nepal, prompting state disaster agencies in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to issue flood alerts. Officials warn that water levels at the Gandak Barrage could rise, urging residents to stay vigilant.

Heavy rainfall in the mountainous regions of Nepal has led to a rapid rise in river levels, resulting in sudden flooding across several districts. Local authorities in Nepal have reported inundation of low‑lying areas and have begun rescue operations for affected communities.

In response, the State Disaster Management Authorities of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh issued flood alerts early this morning. Both states have activated their emergency response teams and are monitoring river flows that originate from Nepal, particularly the Gandak and its tributaries.

Officials from the Water Resources Department warned that the water level at the Gandak Barrage could increase as the swollen river water crosses the border. The barrage, which regulates flow into the plains, may see higher discharge, prompting precautionary measures at downstream irrigation canals.

Residents in districts along the Gandak have been advised to stay alert, avoid low‑lying areas, and follow instructions from local officials. Relief camps are being prepared for any potential displacement, and the authorities continue to track the situation closely.
