Hundreds of students from a government school in Muzaffarpur blocked Banaras Bank Road on Friday, demanding action after a three‑day wave of thefts at the school premises.
Students of the Rajkiya Madhya Vidyalaya's women’s craft building in Muzaffarpur's Nagar police station area staged a sit‑in on Friday, shutting down the Banaras Bank Road‑Gola Road intersection. The protest was triggered by a series of burglaries reported over the past three days inside the school’s craft hall, which left students and staff feeling unsafe.
According to eyewitnesses, the demonstrators formed a human chain across the road, holding placards that read "Stop the thefts" and "We are fed up with thieves." Police officers arrived but allowed the crowd to remain until the road was cleared later in the evening.
School authorities have not yet disclosed the exact number of items stolen, but they confirmed that valuable craft equipment and personal belongings were taken. The administration has promised to cooperate with the police and to install additional security measures, including CCTV cameras, to prevent further incidents.
The protest underscores growing frustration among students who feel that law‑enforcement response to campus crimes has been inadequate. Local officials said they would review the security protocols at educational institutions across the district.
No arrests were reported during the demonstration, and the road traffic resumed after the protest was peacefully dispersed.
