Students at LNIPE Gwalior Launch Indefinite Hunger Strike on 14th Day of Protest

On the 14th day of a campus agitation, four students at the LNIPE institute in Gwalior began an indefinite hunger strike, demanding action on six pending issues.
The Lakshmi Narain Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) in Gwalior saw its student movement enter a new phase on Thursday as four participants commenced an indefinite hunger strike. The protest, now in its 14th day, follows a series of demonstrations that began after a student’s death at the institute's Guwahati campus.
The Guwahati incident sparked outrage among the student community, prompting them to rally across LNIPE campuses for accountability and safety reforms. Since then, the agitation has grown, with regular sit‑ins, road blockades and demands for transparent investigations.
Students have outlined six specific demands, ranging from a swift inquiry into the Guwahati death, improved campus security, to the establishment of a grievance redressal mechanism. They are urging the institute’s administration and the state education department to act without delay.
Authorities have so far expressed concern over the escalation but have not announced any concrete steps to meet the demands. The indefinite hunger strike underscores the protesters’ resolve to keep pressure on officials until their grievances are addressed.
