States Disregard Supreme Court Orders on NEET-PG Seat Allocation

The Supreme Court had earlier issued a directive to standardise seat allocation norms for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Post Graduate) across all states. However, recent reports indicate that several states have not adhered to these guidelines, opting instead for their own criteria. This divergence has led to uneven distribution of seats and confusion among aspirants.

The Court’s order was aimed at ensuring fairness and transparency in the admission process for postgraduate medical courses. By setting uniform norms, it sought to eliminate arbitrary reservations and regional disparities. The non‑compliance by certain states undermines these objectives.

Medical students and professional bodies have expressed concern over the lack of uniformity, arguing that it hampers equal opportunity and could affect the quality of future doctors. The Supreme Court has warned that continued disregard may result in further legal action.
