The National Scheduled Tribes Commission has issued a three‑day notice to Madhya Pradesh officials over the razing of twelve tribal homes in Kosmi village, Sehore, and the state chief minister has ordered a probe.

The National Scheduled Tribes (ST) Commission has formally requested a response from the Madhya Pradesh government within three days regarding the demolition of twelve tribal dwellings in Kosmi village, Sehore district. The commission’s notice seeks clarification on the authority and justification for the demolition, which affected families belonging to the scheduled tribes.

State officials have been asked to submit details of the orders, the agencies involved, and any compensation offered to the displaced households. The commission emphasized that any violation of tribal rights under the Constitution would be taken seriously.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, after learning of the incident, announced that a departmental inquiry will be launched to ascertain the circumstances and hold accountable any officials found negligent. The inquiry is expected to be completed promptly, and appropriate remedial action will be taken based on its findings.

Local tribal representatives have expressed concern over the loss of homes and livelihoods, urging the government to ensure that the affected families receive adequate rehabilitation. The matter remains under close watch by civil‑society groups monitoring tribal rights in the state.

The ST Commission’s intervention underscores the ongoing sensitivity surrounding tribal land and housing issues in Madhya Pradesh, where several similar disputes have arisen in recent years.
