A farmers' body projects a modest 2% decline in India's soybean output, while Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are expected to see increases that could offset the shortfall in Maharashtra.
The latest estimate from a national farmers' association indicates that soybean production in India may fall by about two percent this season. The modest dip reflects a slight slowdown in sowing and yield expectations across major growing areas.
According to the same report, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are projected to record higher output, driven by favourable monsoon patterns and improved seed varieties. These gains are expected to partially offset the anticipated reduction in Maharashtra, which has faced challenges such as erratic rainfall and pest pressure.
Analysts say the offsetting performance of MP and Rajasthan could stabilise overall market supply, limiting price volatility for both domestic consumers and exporters. The association urges policymakers to monitor the situation closely and support affected farmers in Maharashtra through targeted relief measures.
