South Asian farmers are turning to new techniques to absorb, adapt and transform in the face of climate change, according to a recent study.

A recent analysis published by the Oxford Research Forum highlights how farmers across South Asia are implementing climate‑resilient practices to safeguard their livelihoods. The study notes that farmers are adopting soil‑conservation techniques, diversified cropping, and drought‑tolerant varieties to absorb the impacts of erratic weather.

"The shift is not just about survival; it’s about transforming farming systems to be more robust," the report states. It cites examples from India, Bangladesh, and Nepal where community seed banks and micro‑irrigation projects have reduced crop losses.

The research also points out that government support, such as subsidies for climate‑smart inputs and training programs, has accelerated the uptake of these measures. Farmers report higher yields and reduced input costs after switching to resilient practices.

Experts warn that continued investment in research, extension services, and market linkages will be essential to maintain momentum and ensure that climate resilience becomes a permanent feature of South Asian agriculture.
