Sony unveils Alpha 7R VI with 66.8MP stacked sensor, 8K video

Sony introduced its latest full‑frame mirrorless camera, the Alpha 7R VI, today, showcasing a 66.8‑megapixel stacked CMOS sensor that sets a new resolution benchmark for the Alpha line. The model supports 8K video recording at 30 frames per second and 4K at up to 120 fps, catering to both high‑resolution still shooters and videographers. It also features sensor‑level dual‑gain architecture, delivering improved dynamic range and low‑light performance. Additional upgrades include a revamped autofocus system with more phase‑detect points, refined ergonomics and full compatibility with Sony’s E‑mount lens ecosystem. The camera is slated for a global launch later this year, with pricing yet to be disclosed, and analysts say it reinforces Sony’s lead in the high‑resolution mirrorless segment, challenging rivals such as Canon and Nikon.
