Sony Pictures has started shooting a coming‑of‑age movie in a Central New York village, a development that some residents say could create rifts within the community.
Sony Pictures announced that principal photography for a new coming‑of‑age feature has commenced in a small village in Central New York. The production, reported by Syracuse.com, marks the studio's first major shoot in the region and is expected to run for several weeks.
Local officials confirmed that the crew has set up equipment in the village’s streets and public spaces, drawing attention from residents who are unaccustomed to large‑scale film activity. While some community members welcome the economic boost and the chance to showcase their locale, others have voiced concerns that the presence of a film crew could disrupt daily life and stir disagreements.
The studio has indicated that it will work closely with local authorities to minimize inconvenience, but the situation underscores how external projects can sometimes create friction in tightly‑knit rural settings. The outcome of this shoot may influence future decisions about film productions in similar communities.
