The historic Somnath Temple in Gujarat marked the 75th anniversary of its reconstruction with a week‑long ‘Somnath Amrit Parv’ festival.

Somnath Temple, one of India's most revered pilgrimage sites, observed the 75th anniversary of its post‑Independence reconstruction on Thursday. The milestone was marked by the launch of ‘Somnath Amrit Parv’, a series of cultural and religious events scheduled to run for a week across the temple complex and surrounding areas.

Organisers highlighted that the temple, originally destroyed several times in history, was rebuilt in 1947 under the guidance of then‑Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and later completed in 1951. The 75‑year commemoration underscores the resilience of the site and its significance to devotees nationwide.

The inaugural ceremony featured traditional aarti, devotional music, and a procession of priests reciting ancient verses. State officials, local leaders and pilgrims attended, expressing gratitude for the temple’s role in preserving cultural heritage. The festival will also include folk dances, exhibitions on the temple’s history, and community service initiatives aimed at promoting regional tourism.
