Representatives of six states signed a memorandum of understanding, clearing a major hurdle for the long‑delayed Kishau multipurpose dam.

Delhi — Officials from six Indian states gathered to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that paves the way for the Kishau multipurpose dam to move forward. The signing ceremony, attended by senior water‑resource ministers, marked the first collective endorsement of the project after years of inter‑state negotiations.

The Kishau dam, envisioned as a large‑scale water‑storage and power‑generation facility, has been in planning for over a decade. Proponents say the structure will augment irrigation supplies, generate hydro‑electricity and help mitigate flood risks in the basin.

With the MoU in place, the participating states will now coordinate on detailed design, funding arrangements and environmental clearances. The agreement is expected to accelerate project timelines, although exact completion dates remain subject to further approvals and financing.
