After days of severe flooding, officials warn that the Disang embankment in Sivasagar, Assam, has weakened, raising fears of renewed inundation.

In the wake of this devastation, local authorities have identified a new risk: the Disang embankment, which was built to contain rising river waters, has shown signs of weakening.
Engineering surveys conducted by the district’s water resources department revealed cracks and erosion along the embankment’s crest. The report warns that if the embankment fails, nearby low‑lying areas could be inundated again.
