Sivasagar families grapple with rebuilding a month after floods

The monsoon floods that swept through Assam in early June left large sections of Sivasagar district under water, damaging homes, roads and agricultural fields. One month later, residents are still confronting the daunting task of rebuilding their houses, many of which remain partially collapsed or water‑logged. Local authorities have distributed temporary shelters and basic relief supplies, but the pace of reconstruction is slow due to limited resources and ongoing waterlogging in low‑lying areas. Families report difficulties in accessing clean water, restoring electricity and resuming farming activities, which are vital for their income. Community groups and NGOs continue to assist by providing construction materials and labour, yet the overall recovery remains a protracted effort.

सिवासागर जिले में शुरुआती जून में आई मानसून बाढ़ ने कई घरों, सड़कों और खेती के खेतों को क्षतिग्रस्त कर दिया। अब एक महीने बीत चुके हैं, फिर भी कई परिवार अपने घरों को फिर से बनाने में जूझ रहे हैं, कई इमारतें अभी भी धँस चुकी या जलजमाव से ग्रस्त हैं। स्थानीय प्रशासन ने अस्थायी आश्रय और बुनियादी राहत सामग्री वितरित की है, पर सीमित संसाधनों और सतत जलजमाव के कारण पुनर्निर्माण की गति धीमी है। परिवार साफ़ पानी, बिजली की बहाली और खेती‑किसानी फिर से शुरू करने में कठिनाइयों का सामना कर रहे हैं, जो उनकी आय का मुख्य स्रोत है। सामुदायिक समूह और गैर‑सरकारी संगठनों ने निर्माण सामग्री और श्रम प्रदान करके मदद जारी रखी है, पर संपूर्ण पुनर्प्राप्ति अभी भी लंबी प्रक्रिया है।
