A tunnel collapse in Sikkim has claimed the lives of 10 workers, including several from Assam, while 27 others remain trapped as rescue teams continue operations.
Earlier this week, a tunnel under construction in Sikkim collapsed, sending a wave of shock through the region.
Rescue operations have recovered the bodies of 10 workers, among them several from Assam, while 27 workers are still trapped beneath the debris.
Sikkim Police, the Central Reserve Police Force and local emergency teams are working round the clock to extract the trapped workers and assess the structural damage.
The tunnel was part of a larger project aimed at improving connectivity between the state’s interior districts and the capital, Gangtok.
Authorities have announced a safety review of the construction site and are urging all contractors to adhere strictly to national safety guidelines.
