The Sikkim Tourism Department announced that a new digital payment platform for tourists will become operational on September 1, enabling cash‑less transactions across the state.
Sikkim's tourism authority has confirmed that a dedicated digital payment system will go live on September 1. The platform is designed to allow visitors to settle fees for permits, accommodation, and local services electronically, reducing reliance on cash.
The initiative aligns with the state government's broader push for a cash‑less economy and aims to streamline the visitor experience while improving revenue tracking for tourism operators.
Officials said the system will be integrated with the existing Sikkim Tourism website and mobile app, supporting major credit cards, debit cards and popular Indian digital wallets. Training sessions for hotels, homestays and transport providers are scheduled ahead of the launch.
The department will also run an awareness campaign, distributing informational material at major entry points such as the Pakyong Airport and border checkpoints, to ensure tourists and service providers are familiar with the new process.
