From October 1, Sikkim's government will move the fees collected for permits to restricted areas into a new revenue account head, aiming to streamline fiscal reporting.

The state government of Sikkim announced that, effective October 1, the fees levied for permits to enter restricted areas will be recorded under a newly created head in the state's revenue account. This administrative change is intended to provide clearer accounting of the income generated from tourism and security‑sensitive zones.

The revision does not alter the amount of the permit fee; it merely shifts the classification within the state's financial statements. Officials said the move will help align the revenue ledger with the state's broader fiscal management reforms.

The decision was communicated through an official circular to district administrations and relevant tourism agencies, who are instructed to implement the new accounting practice from the start of the next financial quarter.
