The Governor of Sikkim marked the festival of lights by spending the evening with inmates of a local old‑age home, distributing sweets and lighting lamps together.

Gangtok, Sikkim – The state's constitutional head observed Diwali in a modest setting, visiting an old‑age home to celebrate with its residents. The governor, accompanied by a small team of officials, entered the facility in the early evening, where a simple rangoli and a series of oil lamps were already arranged by the staff.

During the visit, the governor addressed the seniors, wishing them health and happiness, and highlighted the importance of respecting elders in Indian society. He also handed out traditional sweets and small gift packs, which were received with gratitude and smiles.

The event, organized by the home’s management in collaboration with local volunteers, aimed to bring the festive spirit to a vulnerable section of the community. Observers noted the governor's personal interaction with several inmates, reinforcing the government's commitment to social welfare during festive occasions.

The celebration concluded with a collective lighting of diyas, symbolising hope and unity, as the governor thanked the caregivers for their dedication.

The gathering underscores the broader practice of public officials participating in cultural festivities to foster community bonds across the state.
