India's opening batsman Shubman Gill will be unavailable for Punjab in the first match of the Ranji Trophy season, as confirmed by India Today.
Shubman Gill, a regular member of India's Test and limited‑overs squads, has been ruled out of Punjab's opening game of the 2024‑25 Ranji Trophy season. The announcement was reported by India Today, confirming that the star batsman will not feature in the team's first fixture.
Punjab will therefore begin their campaign without one of their most prolific run‑scorers, a setback that could affect the side's batting depth. Team management will have to reshuffle the order and rely on other senior players to fill the void left by Gill's absence.
The Ranji Trophy opener marks the start of a crucial domestic season for Punjab, and the loss of Gill is expected to be a talking point among fans and analysts alike. The team will aim to compensate for the missing talent and secure a positive result in the opening match.
No specific reason for Gill's unavailability has been disclosed in the report, and the board has not issued a detailed statement at this stage.
