Fast bowler Mohammed Shami says he remains optimistic about an India recall even though he was omitted from the squad for the New Zealand series.
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami was not included in the Indian squad announced for the upcoming Test series in New Zealand. The omission came as the board finalized a pace attack that favoured younger options, leaving Shami on the sidelines for the tour.
Despite the setback, Shami conveyed confidence that his performances in domestic cricket and recent fitness work will keep him in contention for future assignments. He emphasized that he continues to train rigorously and is prepared to step in should the team require his experience.
Cricket analysts note that Shami's track record in overseas conditions, particularly in swing-friendly environments, could make him a valuable addition if injuries or form issues arise among the current pace unit. The bowler's statements reflect a common sentiment among senior players awaiting selection opportunities.
The board has not commented on Shami's prospects, but his expressed optimism underscores the competitive nature of pace bowling spots ahead of the next home series.
