Severe Floods Swamp Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh

Heavy rains have triggered extensive flooding in Chitrakoot, causing widespread disruption across the district.
Heavy monsoon showers over the past 24 hours have caused the banks of the Ken River to overflow, submerging low‑lying areas of Chitrakoot district in Madhya Pradesh. Water levels rose rapidly, inundating residential localities, agricultural fields and main thoroughfares.
Local residents reported that several villages were cut off as roads became impassable and power supplies were disrupted. Emergency shelters were set up in schools and community halls to accommodate families forced to abandon their homes.
The district administration has deployed rescue teams, including the State Disaster Response Force and the National Disaster Response Force, to evacuate stranded people and distribute relief supplies. Officials have also issued warnings to avoid non‑essential travel in the affected zones.
Meteorological officials anticipate that the rain spell may persist for another day, urging citizens to stay alert and cooperate with rescue operations as water levels are expected to remain high.
