Seven Odisha devotees, including three children, die as car swept away near MP temple

Seven pilgrims from Odisha lost their lives when their vehicle was carried away by fast‑moving water near the MP temple, officials said. The tragedy claimed the lives of three children along with four adults, all of whom were travelling together to the shrine.

Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported and confirmed the fatalities. Rescue teams from the district administration were dispatched to retrieve the bodies and to assess the cause of the sudden surge that swept the car.

Preliminary investigations suggest that an unexpected rise in the water level of a nearby stream or canal may have overwhelmed the vehicle. Authorities have urged devotees to exercise caution during the monsoon season and to avoid crossing vulnerable water bodies.

The district collector’s office has opened a formal inquiry to determine whether any negligence contributed to the accident. Families of the victims have been informed, and compensation measures are being discussed with the state government.
